The Gingerbread Man

You will never believe what happened on our class today!  We put a gingerbread man into the oven to bake and when we went to get him he was gone!

We went around the school looking for him.

We never found our gingerbread man, but he did leave us a tasty treat in our classroom.  Yum!

Number Line Math

Today we played a number line game.  We rolled the dice and moved up and down the number line.  We are setting up learning about adding and subtracting.  To play this game at home, you just need the board and the dice.  Roll the dice to move the rabbit to the carrot and back down to the hole.

Nature made vs. Human made

Since it was such a beautiful day, we took advantage of it by going on a nature walk.  We brought our iPads out with us and took a couple of pictures around the school.  Everyone got to choose if they took a picture of a human made object or a nature made object. When we got back to our class,we shared the picture we took by chirping it to each other.  We looked at each picture and decided if it was human made or nature made.  Here are some examples of the pictures the kids took.

GoNoodle

These kids work so hard, so throughout the day I try to incorporate some brain breaks, or movement activities.  One we recently started is called GoNoodle.  GoNoodle is an online resource for movement breaks.  Here is a video of the kids dancing to I Like to Move It.  I know these are good for their bodies, but I also get a kick out of their dances moves!

Fire Station

Today we went to the Becker Fire Station.  We first met with firefighter Ron and learned some fire safety rules.
1. Stop, Drop and Roll
2. Stay low and go
3. Feel the door before you leave a room
4. Have a
family meeting place
5. Never play with fire

Firefighter Ron also showed us what a firefighter looks like and sounds like so we wouldn't be scared.

We also got a chance to see all the fire trucks and learn about each trucks job.

The Becker Fire Station is having an open house on Saturday, October 11th from 10:00-2:00.

Patterns All Around Us

Today we talked about patterns and where we see them around our room, on our clothes and around our school.  We walked around the school and took pictures of the patterns we saw.  When we got back to our room, we used a new app, chirp, to share our pictures with each other.

Here is the kids taking pictures:

Here are a couple of pictures that they took and shared with all of us:

Morning Work

As the kids arrive in the morning, we start the day with math stations! This is a good transition to start the day as well as stay busy while we wait for our friends to come into the room.  Are math stations are set up as activities we have done in class or things we are learning.  Here are some of the math stations we have this week.
