Subtraction Game
Yesterday we played high roller with adding dice. The bigger number got the chip. Today we played low roller with subtraction. They use the high number and take away the lower number. The partner who has the smaller number is the winner of the chip. This would be great practice at home for simple subtracting and adding!

Opinions
One of our writing goals this trimester is to be able to write our opinion about a story. Today we practiced writing our opinion and then recording our opinion to the story Duck! Rabbit!
Throughout this story there are two kids who are arguing whether they see a duck or a rabbit on the page. They never find out at the end which animal it is, so the kids have to use evidence from the text to form their opinion. We used Movenote to record our opinion after it was written. The audio quality isn't the best at the beginning but it does get better! Enjoy!

Place Value
In math we have been working on place value with tens and ones. In first grade they work on this using longs and cubes. We rolled two dice, made a number and then represented that number by drawing longs and cubes (tens and ones).

Publishing our Research
This week we have been working on research. In the afternoon we worked on researching oviparous animals. The kids are going to publish their research using Shadow Puppets. I'll post their work later this week!
